ALS Ice Bucket Challenge – Larysa Unleashed takes the plunge with a deeper meaning, ALS hits close to home!

I know you are all probably sick hearing about the ice bucket challenge and tired of seeing them dominate your news feed on Facebook. However I encourage you to watch just one more.
If you don’t know my background story I will catch you up to speed. I grew up with three older brothers and no one in my family hunts or fishes. I didn’t find my passion for hunting until I booked myself a solo hunt where I discovered I had a natural talent at shooting. When I returned home my family didn’t understand my new found passion for hunting and criticized me for it because of their lack of education about it. I ignored the lack of support from my family and let it fuel my fire to create a television show where I could encourage other females and children to get involved in the outdoors and help educate non-hunters on why we hunt.
I know my passion for hunting is born in me and I got my shooting ability from my grandfather Salvatore Eretto. He was a very talented shooter and was an aerial gunner in World War II. His father raised beagles for hunting however it never got passed on to my mother.
My grandfather got diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Scierosis) also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease” and died when I was 16. I didn’t start hunting until I was 22 so I never got a chance to share my hunting stories with the one person in my family that would understand my hunting passion, instead I got to watch him slowly get worse from ALS. I wish he was still alive so he could see my hunting passion blossom and be able to see how far I have become. However, I know he’s watching over me and that he’s on every hunt with me with a big smile on his face.
It’s so great to see the power of the Internet and how the Ice Bucket Challenge turned viral. It is unbelievable the amount of money it has raised for ALS and I can only hope this money will help to eventually find a cure. There are many unfortunately horrible diseases out there and I think this ice bucket challenge helped bring attention to not only ALS but maybe other diseases out there to help remind people they should donate and support a cause close to their heart so this world can help find cures. I think everyone’s life has been affected by knowing someone with some time of disease or cancer and if we all come together like the nation did for the ALS ice bucket challenge, we are taking the first steps at overcoming these horrible diseases.
Thank you for taking the time to watch my Ice Bucket Challenge. It’s a tribute to my grandfather and I hope he is up above smiling down.
