Team USA fishes to make a difference in the World Carp Classic Junior Event in Czech Republic
Posted on Monday, May 25th, 2015
Carp duo brothers Austin and Brendan Pass from Michigan are going to join outdoor TV Host Larysa Switlyk to represent Team USA in the World Carp Classic Junior Event. Through this event a fund raising initiative will be launched to purchase much needed equipment for a hospital treating children with terminal cancer.
This event will take place June 27th- 30th 2015 on lake Katvlov in the Czech Republic! It’s a 3-day straight tournament camping out by the lake so teaming up with an energy drink company seemed like a great idea. Team USA will be proudly representing Baddass Nutrition and Energy drink along with some other great sponsors such as Pro Logic, Salt life Optics, Dynamite Baits, and Valley Fashions custom apparel.
Switlyk host her own TV show called Larysa Unleashed the currently airs on The Sportsman Channel and has represented Team USA in the World Carp Classic the past 3 years. When she was chosen to be the captain for Team USA’s Junior Event to bring two young adults over to fish for carp her first thought went to the Pass brothers. “Once I got word of the Carp junior event and I was selected to bring a team over from the USA I instantly called up Austin and Brendan Pass because I recall them placing 2nd in the Austin Team Championship the year I fished it. Figured if these kids out fished mostly all of the other teams including mine than they would definitely be up for the challenge to fish against other countries!” States Switlyk.
Austin is 18 years old and his brother Brendan is 16, which makes them the perfect candidate for this tournament. “Carp are such a unique fish that give you an incredible fight! With all the different ways you can target them is what makes me love the sport so much. With the focus on targeting bigger fish every year I always strive to become a better angler. Currently my personal best is a common carp of 37 lb 6oz. ” says Austin.
These boys are no strangers to carp fishing tournaments either with 1st place finishes in the Midwest Regional Battle of the States in both 2013 and 2014. A 1st place finish in 2014 and 3rd place finish in 2013 in the Holland Wooden Shoe Carp Classic. A 2nd place finish in 2013 and 4th place finish in 2014 in the Austin Team Champion.
” I’m really glad Larysa thought of us for her team. My brother and I definitely have the passion for carp fishing and it is a dream for us to fish for them in Europe. Ever since I got turned onto fishing for carp when I was 11, I wanted to learn more about the sport and advance my skills to become the best angler I can become and getting a chance to fish for carp in Europe will help solidify that. I’m proud to represent Team USA and being apart of raising money for cancer research.” States Brendan .
Switlyk talks about the differences of carp fishing in Europe, “People don’t realize that catching carp in Europe is way different and harder than how you fish for them in the States which instantly puts us as a disadvantage. We plan to fly over to the Czech Republic a few days early so the boys can get some pre fishing in. I know they can catch fish so I’m not worried. Since I can’t help them during the tournament I’m hoping the time we spend pre fishing will get them caught up to the European tactics. “
This event will be film and the adventure will air on a future episode of Larysa Unleashed Gone Fishin’. Make sure to keep track of the team on their social media pages. The World Carp Classic Facebook page will have updates and daily videos or follow Larysa Unleashed on Facebook. Any comments or questions please contact Larysa at LarysaUnleashed@gmail.com.
